Subject: St. Louis Peonies
Dear Friends;
This Saturday I gave a program at
the Missouri Botanic Garden on peonies. It was
sponsored by the Rock Garden Club, but open to
the public. I concentrated on herbaceous peonies,
but gave a brief review of all peonies and how
they are related. I planned the talk for about
an hour, but with interruptions and questions it
lasted nearly 2 hours with lots and LOTS of
interest. I suggested from the kind and number
of questions, that St. Louis NEEDS a peony club.
In a city that has an Iris Society, a Rock
Garden Club, and other societies for Daylilies,
Hosta, Daffodils and many others; they are
missing out on a peony society. There are many
benefits to having a peony society. Answering
some basic questions is just the start.
One attendee wrote the next day to say they had
made a quick order of 5 of my suggested
cultivars and joined the Heartland Peony
Society. Yep, they NEED a local peony club.
